Here is the latest Pac-12 Conference sports news from The Associated Press – Mankato Free Press

UNDATED (AP) — Georgia has taken back the top spot in The Associated Press college football poll from Alabama. The Crimson Tide slid to No. 3. The Bulldogs received 32 first-place votes and 1,535 points in the Top 25 to easily reclaim No. 1 on Sunday after being just two points behind Alabama for the No. 2 spot last week. Georgia thumped Auburn 42-10 on Saturday. The Tide escaped an upset bid at home by Texas A&M with Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young sidelined by injury. Ohio State moved up a spot to No. 2, receiving 20 first-place votes.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Caleb Williams threw two touchdown passes to Mario Williams and No. 6 Southern California shut out Washington State in the second half of a 30-14 victory. Travis Dye rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown for the Trojans, who stayed unbeaten under coach Lincoln Riley. USC hadn’t started a season since 2006, near the height of Pete Carroll’s era of powerhouse teams. Cameron Ward passed for 172 yards and hit Robert Ferrel and Nakia Watson for touchdowns for the Cougars, who remained winless at the Coliseum since 2013.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Bo Nix threw for 265 yards and ran for three touchdowns, Noah Whittington added an early 55-yard touchdown run and No. 12 Oregon rolled to a 49-22 victory over Arizona on Saturday night. The Ducks scored touchdowns on seven consecutive drives starting midway through the first quarter, building a 49-13 lead by late in the third. Oregon piled up 580 yards of total offense. The Ducks have won five straight since a season-opening loss to Georgia, scoring more than 40 points in every game.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Trenton Bourguet threw for three touchdowns after Emory Jones was injured, Xazavian Halladay accounted for two more scores and Arizona State beat No. 21 Washington 45-38 for interim coach Shaun Aguano’s first victory. The Sun Devils lost their first two games after Herm Edwards was fired on Sept. 18, though played No. 6 Southern California close last week before fading late. Bourguet adeptly led the offense after Jones was injured in the second quarter against Washington, throwing for 182 yards on 15-of-21 passing with an interception. He hit Elijhah Badger for two touchdowns, including a 2-yarder in the fourth quarter to put the Sun Devils up 45-38.

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Dorian Thompson-Robinson passed for 299 yards and four TDs to become UCLA’s career leader in passing touchdowns, Zach Charbonnet rushed for a career-high 198 yards and the 18th-ranked Bruins defeated No. 11 Utah 42-32. Thompson-Robinson also had a rushing score for the Bruins, who are 6-0 for the first time since 2005 and picked up the biggest victory in Chip Kelly’s five years in Westwood. They have won nine straight dating back to last season, which is their longest streak since running off 20 straight victories in 1997-98. Cameron Rising passed for 287 yards and ran for a pair of scores for the Utes  who had won five straight in the series by an average of 27 points.

UNDATED (AP) — Maybe making a coaching change less than halfway through the season isn’t such a terrible idea. After an unprecedented spate of early season firings, teams with interim head coaches went 4-0 this weekend in major college football. Georgia Tech and Nebraska each won their second straight games to move into position to contend in their divisions. Wisconsin played its best game in a couple of seasons in its first game after Paul Chryst was fired. And, Arizona State got its first victory since firing Herm Edwards.

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Ben Gulbranson threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Tre’Shaun Harrison with 13 seconds remaining and Oregon State overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Stanford 28-27. The Cardinal appeared to be in control of the game when they took a 24-10 lead into the fourth quarter with the Oregon State using a backup quarterback. Instead, they collapsed down the stretch and lost their 11th straight game against an FBS opponent.
